Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Why Water?

There is no life without water- it is essential for good health. We know this. Yet why is it that so many of us still don’t drink enough, or instead opt for energy drinks, teas, or coffee? Maybe plain pure water seems uninteresting, or maybe we just need a quick caffeine fix. Furthermore, why is staying hydrated so beneficial for your health (and beauty)? Essentially every cell, tissue, and organ in our body needs water to work properly. For example, your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate joints as well as plumping your skin leaving it looking fresh and radiant!

Many of us don’t realize the many ways that we lose water throughout the day – sweating, being physically active, going to the bathroom, and even breathing cause our bodies to need replenishment; when the weather is hot, we lose water even faster. If we don’t replace the water we have lost, we become dehydrated which manifests through symptoms such as a dry mouth, sleepiness, he
adaches and urine that is darker than usual. No thank you! Sometimes we even mistake thirst for hunger- our bodies try to get water from food when in reality all we might need is a big glass of water.

You have undoubtedly been told to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water per day, and while everyone is different, this is a reasonable goal. But if you’re struggling – although water is your best option - fruit and vegetable juices (watch out for that added sugar by checking the label!) herbal teas and fruits and vegetables are also good sources of water. Here at GingersnapsOrganic, our fresh, cold-pressed and organic juices are all designed to hydrate and satisfy you without any refined sugars or chemical nasties. The [GO] Refresh is our favorite juice this month – a delicious organic blend of grapefruit, cucumber and fennel – so thirst quenching, this juice is true to its name and has been a real life saver in this summer heat!

So get into the habit of carrying a water bottle with you, set yourself reminders on your phone if you need to, and add a slice of lemon or lime to your water to make it a little different – get creative with ways to make sure you are drinking enough- your body, inside and out, will thank you!
