Ridding Your Mind of Self Doubt [Audio]

PLEASE NOTE, WHILE IT IS GREAT TO DO THIS WITH THE FULL MOON, YOU CAN REALLY DO JUST THE MEDITATION OR THE ENTIRE EXERCISE ANYTIME...

When you enrich your mind you can break the slavery of low habits and ego. You can act as part of the entire cosmos and learn to elevate and to let go.
— Yogi Bhajan

As I always say, I am not an astrologist, but I deeply feel the energy of the moon cycles. While my meditation is a daily practice, I feel during the days leading up to, during and  a little after the Full Moon I tend to get even quieter. Really allowing myself to feel and honor what is coming up for me.

*FULL MOON* in Pisces is calling us from her watery depths urging us to take the time to go within and bathe in the sacred waters of our Soul. We need time to be with our Soul to listen and discern all that we are moving through. (Mystic Mama)

As I have said before, the Full Moons, regardless of what sign they are in, have a focus on releasing and endings. They also bring light on the things that we have not been wanting to look at. These are the things that we might not want to acknowledge or accept about ourselves, some refer to this as the shadow. While it can be uncomfortable and painful, we need to allow our dark side to show itself to us.  When we allow it to be seen and felt, we can release ourselves from the power and shame it might hold over us.

The past few weeks, even more so this past week, I have found myself more withdrawn, needing more alone time than I have before. And, to be honest, this summer has been a bit more heady than I had expected. I find myself questioning even more than I have in the past. As I go inward to understand myself, I seem to be filling myself with more questions.  While I receive the things I have wanted for so long, I notice that my inner voice of self doubt has been mumbling louder than it has in the past.

Most people who meet me would say, wow you are so confident, and there is a huge part of me that agrees with that.  I am aware of the things I know, the good I do, and my abilities and feel confident in them. But, as everyone knows, our mind can have conflicting thoughts.  I can feel the confidence and then within moments, I can spin into moments of self doubt. I can get caught up in comparison and self judgement. How do we accept the parts of ourselves that we don't love? How can we work on them, while still honoring them?

My parents have told me that I was born "different" and always questioning. I will never forget the call I had with my father to let him know I was changing my major in college from business to philosophy,  He was silent and then outraged.  What was I going to do, stand on a corner and constantly question life?  While I have had many different versions of myself, it seems I always go back to wanting to understand it all more.

My dedicated meditation practice has helped me really understand myself more. It allows those questions to be more of a curiosity then a downward spiral into darkness and depression. I am so deeply grateful to my practice, and the effect it has on my anxiety and depression. Its' ability to help me move through my bouts of depression has been life changing. Now, I can honor those moments and still turn them around with much less time and pain then I have before.

I have been practicing the meditation below, and it has been really helpful to quiet my mind. When I pay attention to my breath, it reminds me I am alive. As it moves through me, I can feel it nurturing and cleansing my body and my mind. Connecting with it, knowing it is my life force and that it has so many answers in it. It puts me in a state of compassion not only for others, but for myself as well. It also helps to put me in action. When I acknowledge where I am feeling challenged, this meditation has been helpful in receiving clear action steps to move me out of the place of self doubt. Steps that feel in flow and not in force.

I have made the recording below,  and have been listening to it daily , so that I could be reminded of the power of my breath.  As you listen, you will hear me read from a moving lecture from Yogi Bhajan and his eloquent words on the breath of life.

JOURNALING
When you are finished,  pull out your journal and acknowledge the things that came up for you. What are the whispers that you have been trying to ignore? What would happen if you acknowledged them? Are there things that you could do that could lessen their power?

Take your time, feeling and releasing what you are tired of carrying around with you. Acknowledging what you truly want and finding things, no matter how small, that you could do to move past them.  Allow yourself to be guided. You can listen to this playlist

Now it is time  to clear your crystals, which you can do with Palo Santo, Sage, Sound, dirt, water etc...  You can check out my HIGHLIGHT STORY CALLED CLEARING to get quick info on how to clear your crystals.  To get more information check out THIS VIDEO where we talk about crystals, moons and clearing....When you are finished put your crystals either outside or near a window for 24 hours...

Pranayam to Balance Mental Energy I

This praanayam creates this balance and allows the mind to rid itself of doubts.

The radiance and beauty of a person depends on the clarity and shine of his circumvent force field, which in turn depends on the balance of energy in the left (moon) and right (sun) sides of the body.

Posture: Sit in Easy Pose with an erect spine. Arms are straight with hands on the knees in Gyan Mudra.

Eyes: The eyes are open gazing straight forward.

Breath: Inhale for 5 seconds. Suspend the breath for 10 seconds and then exhale for 5 seconds.

Begin with this rhythm and gradually increase the breathing time to inhaling 10 seconds, holding 15 seconds, and exhaling 10 seconds.

Meditate on the inflow and outflow of breath. It is the divine spark of life.

Time: Continue for 10 – 15 minutes.

PLEASE NOTE, WHILE IT IS GREAT TO DO THIS WITH THE FULL MOON, YOU CAN REALLY DO JUST THE MEDITATION OR THE ENTIRE EXERCISE ANYTIME...

As I always say, I am not an astrologist, but I deeply feel the energy of the moon cycles.  And, lets be honest, you have most likely already started to feel the intensity of our planetary party going on.   To say this Lunar eclipse is intense, would be putting it mildly.  The Lunar eclipse and all the planets in retrograde have brought a lot of fear, so what is it really about?  I know there is another way to look at it...

"Eclipses are magical moments where something slips through an energy portal to both destroy and create. It’s a path opener. Eclipses are known to bring things to a head; something is released, especially at a total lunar eclipse. It’s time to bring things sleeping into the light.

The energies during the past few months have been intense and chaotic, and it feels like things are getting more intense, very much like the stage in labor called transition – the contractions keep coming without stop. It’s an intense time, but it presages birth. Just as it is a dying time, it is also a birthing time."  Cathy Pagano

"There are many energetic interactions here, but the big message is SLOW DOWN. We are being given a unique opportunity to shift our vibration. The catch is that the cosmos insists, through these retrogrades, that we downshift, sit still and be 100 percent present with the energy.

Retrogrades of any kind spin the energy inward. They give us deeper access to the parts of our personality governed by the planet traveling backward. Mercury rules our communication, our systems and our technology. Mercury retrograde tends to break things that need re-alignment. How do we achieve this re-alignment? We take a break, breathe, go within for the solution, and then build something better and stronger. Mercury retrograde also heightens our ability to communicate with our subconscious. This is the PERFECT energy for this Eclipse. During the Eclipse portal (12:30pm PDT to 2:13pm PDT) we’ll have the opportunity to unravel our conditioned patterns, including the origin and attachments of our emotions, all helped by Mercury." Spirit Daughter

Don't you feel a little better already? No need for the doomsday fear...So, with that in mind, let's focus on the things that we are ready to let die so that something can be reborn.  This is not just a limiting belief, but maybe something or someone that you have allowed to remain in your life that you know isn't allowing you the space to let in what you truly desire...You need to get really honest with yourself.  Get quiet.  Go in and acknowledge what you need to end in order for something else to begin.  Pay attention.  Practice this for the next few days, taping into your intuition so that you can truly know what it is you want and what it is your doing because of fear or to fit in.

Because we are dealing with a lunar eclipse, we want to tap into our lunar side.  The side that is ruled by intuition, that is calming, creative.  We will use the same meditation we did for the last Full Moon, as it is Left Nostril breathing, which stimulates your parasympathetic body, as well as your intuition. I will be doing this breath for the rest of the week.  Allowing my intuition to get louder.

The moon in Aquarius is also a time for community, and collective consciousness. Where are the places in your life where you can help others and not just yourself. Focus on making changes that could help the world around you. I suggest you gather with some friends and do the below meditation together, or find a group event that you can attend. The energy of the Full Moon, especially this one, is amplified with group meditation and vibration.

There is also a journaling exercise in the recording.  If you finish journaling and feel called you can chant along and do the mudras for the Antar Naad Mudra for the Full Moon . Watch the 3 minute video. It will show you how to TUNE IN and  the mudra. This is a meditation you only foo on the Full Moon.

When you are finished,  pull out your journal and acknowledge the things that came up for you.  Writing out and saying out loud that you are ready to release each thing that came up. Take your time, feeling and releasing what you are tired of carrying around with you. Acknowledging what you truly want, and not what you think others want.  Get clear.

Now it is time  to clear your crystals, which you can do with Palo Santo, Sage, Sound, dirt, water etc... To get more information check out THIS VIDEO where we talk about crystals, moons and clearing....When you are finished put your crystals either outside or near a window for 24 hours...

Kundalini Yoga Meditation: Dealing with Your Own Mind

Originally taught by Yogi Bhajan on January 9, 1998

Posture:Sit in Easy Pose with a straight spine.

 Image 3HO

Image 3HO

Breath: Close off your right nostril with your right thumb and inhale deeply through your left nostril. Exhale completely through your mouth.

Time: Continue for 6 minutes.

To End: Inhale deeply, interlace your fingers and stretch them over your head palms up. Hold your breath for 10-15 seconds while you stretch your spine upward. Exhale and relax.

Mind is a link between Infinity and you. When the soul got the body, the soul asked God, 'What is my link with you, my Lord?' And God said, 'Mind.'

Mind can take you into any thought, beyond thought, and unto Infinity. Mind can take you into any dungeon, any pit, and any negativity. Mind has no limit in its own self. But mind is your servant. If the mind becomes your master, you don't have a chance. It is very essential in yoga that we know our own mind.

Now you will ask me if a mind can be controlled. Yes. Not only can your mind be controlled, your life can be controlled. A situation can be controlled. Sometimes you get into very, very, very ugly situations. If you have the practice to switch your breath to the left nostril, you will get out of it in two seconds. The moment you start breathing with your left nostril, your elementary self will come into play. The moment your elementary self comes into play, your totality of the mind becomes one unit to confirm and it puts out the radiance shield of your body and you will immediately become very pleasant and positive rather than angry and reactive.

Some people train themselves to breathe through any nostril they choose. But many of you have not practiced that, and therefore you use your hand to close your right nostril. Long, deep breathing through the left nostril is good for the heart and good for the health. It will calm you down.

Normally after you have done this exercise for two minutes you will start feeling bored. Negative mind is in action: 'What are you doing this for? This is a babyish thing. We could have done something better.' In any exercise which touches the mind, a person starts getting upset in exactly two and half minutes. That's the rule of thumb. The mind doesn't want to be caught. It wants to swing. But there are some people like us who feel that it's hard work to control the mind, and once we control the mind, then we can control the whole world.

Dealing With Your Own Mind [Full Moon in Capricorn Audio]

 Image Astrology

Image Astrology

PLEASE NOTE, WHILE IT IS GREAT TO DO THIS WITH THE FULL MOON, YOU CAN REALLY DO JUST THE MEDITATION OR THE ENTIRE EXERCISE ANYTIME...

The Full Moon in Capricorn is about tuning into yourself.  Checking in on what is your internal world versus the outside world. In what ways are you not standing up for who you are in order to please other people? It is important to get really quiet so that you can hear what the real YOU wants and needs.  It is about getting clear.

This Full Moon in Capricorn  also marks the end of the first part of the year.  It is a time to look back to what intentions you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.  Are you doing the work? Are you being honest with yourself? Are you being true to YOU?

“The Full Moon in Capricorn importance of  honoring process rather than seeking after premature outcomes. It cautions patience and rewards those who respect the natural order which necessitates firm foundations before we reach for the sky! We may have to let go of unrealistic notions at this moon, recognising that our previous timetable for an important project may be flawed

However this full moon manifests in your life, take heart and don’t give up hope. This isn’t an unsatisfactory end, but a staging post on a longer and altogether more significant journey. There is much wisdom available in the light of this Moon. Those who are willing to look with eyes wide open will see with greater clarity where they’ve sought to side-step responsibility in favour of an easier road or more naive approach to matters of gravity.

Sometimes we must simply walk through the flames to reach the other side, for they are purifying and strengthening, even as they burn through our egoic  defenses” -Sarah Varcas

Tonight we will do a Kundalini Meditation for Dealing with Your Own Mind. The instructions are below + I have recorded an Audio File for you to follow along with as well.

Guided Reiki Infused Meditation For Setting Intentions with The Gemini New Moon. [Audio]

 Image from Pexels

Image from Pexels

*While the energy is amplified during the New Moon, please note this guided meditation can be done at any time.

The new moon in Gemini is all about communication.  It is not just about the communication we have with others, but what is the conversation you are having with yourself.  This New Moon is asking us to go deep and get clear with our communication.

Gemini represents both sides of the coin, the twins.  We often are caught in the conflicting sides of the situation, and can find ourselves battling ourselves in our head.  Trying to workout what direction we actually want to take.  Different parts of us want different things and how do we know which part we should listen to? How can we truly manifest when we aren't always sure what we actually want for ourselves?

"Part of this energy is the essence of the trickster. Because of her duality, Gemini illuminates the tricks we play on ourselves and the way our own mind can fool us. As we approach this New Moon, the cosmos is highlighting this energy for us to work with. The mind, just like Gemini, seeks to label, to define and to discern. When we apply this to our feelings, it is not always a perfect match. We may feel something in our heart, or our soul, and the mind may be too quick to label it- misconstruing its meaning and ultimately tricking us into believing it is something it is not. Usually these “tricks” are based on conditioned patterns learned long ago, or preconceived notions about who we are supposed to be and what we are supposed to feel. (Spirit Daughter

This New Moon, ask yourself in what ways does your mind trick you? Maybe it’s by labeling your tears with sadness when they are out of gratitude, or perhaps it tells you that you’re not good enough when you feel excited about a new venture. There are many ways the mind tricks, recognize them and with the help of this New Moon start a new pattern. The New Moon in Gemini is a perfect time to get set goals and start with using your communication skills. " (Spirit Daughter

So, for this New Moon, we want to open up a conversation with our subconscious, allowing answers to unfold.  How do we do that? Well, I created a guided meditation for you to help bring answers to the surface. Think of it as a mini Energy Session.  It is filled with Reiki  + Sound + Guidance + Healing.  Reiki energy healing can move time and space, so you will feel it, even though you are not with me at the time I recored it for you.

Please create a sacred space for yourself, light your incense + candle, take out your crystals.  You'll start by playing the below guided mediation.

When you are finished, you will start to journal, and use this PLAYLIST.  Take out your journal and just start to go in.  See what is coming up for you.  Let yourself free flow, allow your subconscious  to just allow itself to be heard.  Listen for whatever answers might be there.  Do not judge yourself, just allow.

About the mantra for the playlist: "There are several practices in Kundalini yoga that help clear the subconscious mind. But if you want to add a mantra to your regimen and take out the trash while you chant, there is a mantra for that.“Gobinday Mukanday”, also called the Guru Gaitri mantra, is a powerful tool to clear the subconscious mind and according to Yogi Bhajan, master of Kundalini yoga, clear deep-seated blocks.  He also said this mantra could balance the hemispheres of the brain and bring patience and compassion to the listener. (Spirit Voyage)

The words are easy enough to pick up and refer to different aspects of the Divine.

“Gobinday, Mukunday, Udaray, Apaaray, Hariang, Kariang, Nirnamay, Akaamay”

Sustainer, Liberator, Enlightener, Infinite, Destroyer, Creator, Nameless, Desireless

Once you have completed the journal portion, you are ready to clear your crystals, which you can do with Palo Santo, Sage, Sound, dirt, water etc... For a quick lesson on clearing and crystals check out my Instagram Highlights and click on the one for Clearing). To get more information check out THIS VIDEO where we talk about crystals, moons and clearing...

Continuing journaling with  THE PLAYLIST , but focus on what you want to call in. Be detailed about it.  Be honest, what is it you want...If you feel called hold your crystals as you say your intentions out loud. When you are finished put your crystals either outside or near a window for 24 hours...Keep looking at this list and update it each New Moon.  Paying attention to all of your victories...

Releasing Meditation for the Full Moon in Sagittarius [AUDIO]

PLEASE NOTE, WHILE IT IS GREAT TO DO THIS WITH THE FULL MOON, YOU CAN REALLY DO JUST THE MEDITATION OR THE ENTIRE EXERCISE ANYTIME...

The Full Moon in Sagittarius is going to bring light on a lot of the things you have been trying to hide.  There are things your inner voice has been whispering that you have been trying to ignore. Instead of getting unraveled, see it as a blessing. These are the things that we need bring light on so that we can actually let them go.  They are what is holding us back from what we actually desire. This is where your freedom lies...

The full moon acts like a magnet, affecting the tides of the ocean.  The moon, like us, is made of about 85 % water and so we too are affected by the energies of the moon.  It will pull at things that we have been trying to keep buried.  We will have more access to the subconscious mind to release the past. The light is an opportunity to see what needs to be released.  You have to acknowledge it in order to let it go.

Tonight we will do a Kundalini Meditation for Releasing Your Past

Three Minutes to Calm- with [Audio]

organically jamie newsletter logo.jpg

The breathe is one of the most powerful tools for regulating how we feel and how we think.  We are the only living creatures that have the ability to self regulate it.  We can use the breath the calm us down, as well as invigorate our energy.  The three-part breath is one of the easiest ways to create a state of calm. Using this breath for meditation will quickly ease your mind, eliminate fear, and help you sink deeper into your body and into the present moment. Use this tool anytime you experience anxiety or depression.

INSTRUCTIONS

Jamie Graber meditation.jpg

Lie on your back or sit in a comfortable seated position, eyes closed, with  one hand on your belly and the other on your heart chakra. If that doesn't feel comfortable, find a way that does, maybe hands on the knees, or sitting on your knees; whatever feels comfortable for you.  With your eyes gently closed, look up towards your third eye. Pay attention to the breath in the body, the sound of the gong playing, and what you see behind your closed lids.

As the gong sounds, you will start to breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.  After a few rounds,  move into the three-part breath sequence (explained below).

The three-part breath is a one-minute cycle. 20 seconds to inhale, 20 seconds to hold, 20 seconds to exhale.  Most people can not do the 20 second count.  We will work with a count a 5.  The important part is that each part is equal, 3-3-3, 5-5-5, 10-10-10 etc...Go at a number that feels good to you. Be gentle with yourself.  Be calm with the breath. Don’t force it.

My Podcast with Jordan Younger of The Balanced Blonde

My interview with Jordan, of The Balanced Blonde, is LIVE. And I can’t wait for you to go listen.

As many of you know, Jordan and I go way back.  I have had the pleasure of hosting her at both the East Village and West Village locations of Gingersnap's Organic. We get really deep, and really raw about the scary decisions that have created magical transformation in our lives. How stepping away from one identity for each of us, lead to a magical life of transformation, healing and happiness.

You’ll get to hear us talk about…

  • the ONE conversation I had with Jordan that completely changed her eating habits, in a single day (you might’ve heard this story if you know her background as The Blonde Vegan).
  • manifesting the life you want
  • getting quiet so you can actually know what is best for you
  • learning to listen to YOUR body to know what is best for YOU to eat
  • my honest thoughts about french fries (and why I sometimes say YES to foods I used to label “bad”).
  • the beauty that can be found in seasons of difficult transitions.
  • why both of us reject labels and choose to embrace a more intuitive eating practice.

I honestly can’t wait for you to take a listen. Not only is Jordan filled with so much light and wisdom, but I also know that you’re going to pull so much value from our long-overdue conversation.

The speed at which this year is moving is like nothing I have ever experienced, and I know I am not the only one who is feeling it.  With this New Moon in Pisces, it is a perfect time to slow down, reflect, go inward.  As I have said before, I am not an astrologer, but I am very connected to the moon cycles, and the more I pay attention, the more things start to flow.  When you do rituals with the moon cycles, you have the pull of the planets on your side.  This month with New Moon in Pisces, we can focus on healing. It is time for us to look inside and see what we have been avoiding, bringing it to the surface, and then letting it go.

Some people think that to be strong is to never feel pain. In reality, the strongest people are the ones who feel it, understand it, accept and learn from it. — Unknown

"New Moon in Pisces invites us to take a deep breath and exhale everything that keeps us separate from our own connection to the dreamtime, the Wakan, the Great Mystery.  Here is the opening to take the deep dive into the Void – a deeper intelligence permeating all life.  Here we are called to surrender our burdens as we are held by the limitless ocean of consciousness.  We feel the compassion and acceptance of the Tao, and our own ability to forgive and accept ‘what is’ is strengthened so we may extend the same to others.  There is a time for being and a time for doing.  This is most definitely a time for being.  We extend gratitude to receptive, watery Pisces for her gift at this most feminine of times, more so than at any other time of the year.  Intuition, imagination, and the opening into awareness are at an all time high.  We are supported to connect with our own inner guidance.  So much is being offered for our awakening and healing and many are rising to the occasion."  Pat Liles Full Write Up Here

RITUAL

So, for this new moon, I invite you to take some time and get quiet. Find an area that feels sacred to you. Get out your journal, incense and cleanser of choice, I will be using Palo Santo.  And, for this Ritual, I will be focusing on my Amethyst and Selenite Crystals, as they both have such healing and clearing powers.

As you listen to THIS PLAYLIST let the first song play.  Just sit quiet and breathe. Go in. When it is finished, get out your journal and just let it out. Write it out, what has been coming up for you, what have you feel trying to bury inside. Give yourself permission to feel the pain, and know that is ok. Those things that have been whispering in your ear, release them on the paper.

When you're finished, read it out loud telling yourself that it is ok to feel this way.  You are ready to heal it, and you know that means you have to see it and feel it first. Saying it aloud helps to take away the shame of keeping the pain unspoken and hidden. As you are reading your words, try to step outside yourself and see the lessons that that pain has brought you.  Look for the opportunities of learning and growth.

When you feel ready, take your palo santo or sage, and start swirling the smoke around yourself and then your crystals. Really feeling the clearing that the smoke creates. Really feel yourself releasing the guilt, the shame and the pain. Then, place your crystals outside or by a window for a minimum of 24 hours.

As far as the entry, I will be keeping it. I am finding the more I look back and reflect, the more I learn. Do what feels intuitive for you, burn it, throw it down the toilet, keep it etc...

PLAYLIST HERE

Ra - Sun

Ma - Moon

Daa - Earth

Saa - Impersonal Infinity

Saa Say - Totality of Infinity

So - Personal sense of merger and identity

Hung - The infinite, vibrating and real.

This mantra taps into the energies of the sun, moon, earth, and the Infinite Spirit to bring deep healing. It is important to pull the navel point powerfully on the first Sa and on Hung. Note that the word Hung is not long and drawn out. Rather, it is clipped off forcefully as you pull in the navel. Chant one complete cycle of the entire mantra with each breath. Then deeply inhale and repeat. Remember to move the mouth precisely with each sound. Try to feel the resonance in the mouth and in the sinus area.

Putting an End to Imposter Syndrome

imposter2.jpg

Often when I sit down at my desk to prepare for a big interview, write an outline for a speaking engagement, or work on a new article, I hear whispers of self-doubt swirl through my mind.

Before I even begin, the fear can start to get to me.

You know nothing.

Who are you to deserve this opportunity?

No one wants to hear what you have to say.

How many of you have heard those exact words echo through your mind—maybe after a promotion, or after an invitation, or after being asked to pioneer a new project?

Well, say hello to “Imposter Syndrome.”

Imposter syndrome was first named by a pair of clinical psychologists in the 1970s, who identified the near-universal experience of feeling like a fraud, feeling like an accidental high-achiever, and feeling unworthy in the face of your own accomplishments.

When success arrives at our doorstep, we convince ourselves that it was meant for someone else—because there’s no way that we deserve it. We’re too inadequate, too incompetent, too small.

We’ve all been there, right? We’ve all experienced self-doubt. We’ve all been crippled by insecurities and paralyzed by fear.

But the irony is that we believe we’re the only ones. We fall for the lie that everyone else is confident, worthy, and deserving. And that’s when we start to listen to the damaging voice in our head: I’m the only fraud in the room

The truth is, we all have an inner critic, a voice that makes us question our worth and our experience. This voice tells us the same, worn-out story: you’re not good enough. And, ironically, this voice is often triggered by external approval, opportunities, or compliments.

These positive experiences unearth our buried insecurities, and spin us into a whirlwind of self-doubt.

I see this scenario play out in my clients’ lives all the time.

One day, they’re telling me that they have been asked to speak a prestigious event,  photographed a campagihn or  asked to spearhead the next team project. And, the next day, they’re telling me that maybe it’s not the right fit, and maybe they should back out, and maybe it’s not meant for them.

Too many times, I’ve experienced this same swinging pendulum of emotions—in one moment, fiercely grateful for new opportunities, and in the next moment, completely trapped by the triggered voice of the inner critic.

But thankfully, through all of my years of self work, I’ve learned how to meet imposter syndrome head-on and move through it with mindfulness and intention.  That doesn’t mean it doesn’t rear its ugly head every now and again, but I am able to come back to reality real quickly and get my self in a different state of mind.  The mind of someone who knows not only are the capable to doing what they are being asked, but it is their responsibility to do so.  We al have talents and skills and we are doing a disservice to ourselves and the other we can help if we don’t let them shine.

So, now, when imposter syndrome shows up for my clients, I encourage them sit with it. Don’t try to drown the feeling or shove it into your gut. Instead, take long, deep breaths and bring your awareness to your physical body.

Once your body begins to relax, bring intention to your thoughts. Visualize your accomplishments,, and the faces of people whose lives have impacted through your work. Remind yourself that it is not only your right, but also your obligation to speak out and show up—so that your healing can serve others. Trace your way back through the work you have done to arrive at a place where you can be of great help and inspiration to others.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world"
—Marianne Williamson

Usually, this moment of intentionality is enough to bring you back into a positive headspace and get you back into action mode.

But for the days when imposter syndrome’s grip is especially strong, I’ve developed a series of practices that help to quiet the voice of the critic.

Next time you’re battling self-doubt, I encourage you to implement one or more of these practices—and always remember: you’re in charge of your feelings, and you’re always free to recalibrate and reclaim control.

1.     Stack the positives. Reframe your inner story by consciously naming your past accomplishments, achievements, and successes. Claim your areas of brilliance and speak your strengths aloud. By focusing on these positives, you take your attention away from the weaknesses and imperfections that your inner critic wants you to concentrate on.

2.     Be of service. Sometimes, when we’re spiraling into a negative headspace and feeling like a fraud, we’re hyper-focused on our ego. When you’re trapped in a self-centered mindset, serving others is a perfect way to recalibrate. Find a way to mentor a colleague, volunteer for a good cause, or help a needy friend.

3.     Get into action. One of the fastest ways to tackle imposter syndrome? Start doing the work anyway. When you show up, in spite of your fear, you leave no room for self-doubt and you create space for others to do the same.

4.     Remember that you’re not alone. Gently remind yourself that you’re not the only one experiencing feelings of self-doubt. Thousands of other brilliant, generous, successful humans encounter imposter syndrome every single day. And here’s some proof.

5.     Practice meditation. A consistent meditation practices allows your brain, body, and nervous system to slow down. And, in that slowness, you create space. Space to choose your actions (instead of living in reaction mode). Space to notice and release your triggers (instead of spiralling into self-loathing). Space to observe a situation and act with intention (instead of falling into knee-jerk reaction patterns). I love active meditations, and I’ve included one of my favorite Kundalini meditations below.

The Caliber of Life Meditation:

Start practicing this meditation for three minutes, and slowly increase your practice to eleven minutes. Pay attention to the details of the pose, and don't increase the time until you are practicing the post correctly. This meditation builds self-trust and groundedness.

Following instructions taken from KRI Teachers Training Manual.

1.     Sit in an Easy Pose, with a light jalandhar bandh. (Lift the chest and sternum up while lengthening the back of the neck, by pulling the chin toward the back of the neck. Neck, throat, and face muscles remain relaxed.)

2.     Extend both arms straight forward, and parallel to the ground. Curl the fingers of the right hand into a fist. Extend the thumb straight up. Keep the elbow straight and move the fist to the center of the body. Move the left arm to the center and wrap the fingers of the left hand around the outside of the right hand's fist. Extend the left thumb straight up. Adjust the grip of the hands so that the thumbs can touch along their sides as they point up. The tips of the thumbs will form a little "V" like a gunsight.

3.     Focus the eyes on the thumbnails and through the "V". Look through the "V" like a gunsight, seeing far away and seeing the "V".

4.     Inhale deeply and fill the lungs for 5 seconds. Exhale completely and empty the lungs for 5 seconds. Then suspend the breath out as you stay still for 15 seconds.
